Corgi Takes on Combat: Apple Oregon LLC Launches Detailed Military Models

Apple Oregon LLC, based in Independence, Ohio, is known for bringing joy to collectors with high-quality, die-cast models. But they’ve just done something really different. Forget classic cars and planes – they’re launching a line of incredibly detailed military models… and they’re all corgis. Yep, you read that right. Corgis in military gear. For years, Apple Oregon LLC has quietly built a reputation for precision and a keen eye for detail. They started small, focusing on reproducing iconic vehicles with a level of authenticity that impressed even the most discerning collectors. Now, they’re taking that expertise in a wonderfully unexpected direction. “We always ask ourselves, what’s missing in the collectible world?” explains a spokesperson for Apple Oregon LLC. “And recently, we realized… nobody was making corgis fight pretend wars. It felt like a gap in the market, honestly.” Okay, maybe that's not exactly how they put it, but the core idea is real. The “Corgi Military Models” line isn’t just a gimmick. These aren’t just corgis shaped like tanks or planes. They are the vehicles. Or, more accurately, corgis dressed as the personnel operating those vehicles. Let’s break down what you can expect. The initial release includes a few key models: The “Operation Fluff Storm” Sherman Tank: This isn't a Sherman tank with a corgi driver. It’s a Sherman tank made of corgis. Multiple corgis, strategically positioned to mimic the tank’s hull, turret, and tracks. A particularly fluffy corgi “commander” sits atop the turret, complete with a miniature helmet and tiny binoculars. The detail is insane. We’re talking individually sculpted paws acting as treads, a “barrel” formed by a cleverly arranged row of corgi noses, and even a tiny flag waving from the antenna. “The biggest challenge was getting the proportions right,” says lead designer, Mark Olsen. “Corgis are… vertically challenged. So we had to get creative with the angles and the arrangement to make it look convincingly like a Sherman tank, while still being undeniably corgi.” They’ve also included little painted details on the corgis – camouflage patterns, unit insignia, even tiny facial expressions suggesting determination (and maybe a little bit of “I’d rather be napping”). The “Paws of Fury” Spitfire: Forget pilots in cockpits. This Spitfire is built of corgis. Corgi bodies form the fuselage, wings, and tail. The propeller is made of meticulously arranged corgi ears (don't worry, they're sculpted!). Another fluffy corgi is positioned as the "pilot", wearing a tiny leather flying cap and goggles. It’s a surprisingly aerodynamic-looking corgi aircraft. “We really wanted to capture the spirit of the Spitfire – sleek, powerful, and undeniably British,” explains Olsen. “And what’s more British than a corgi? It just felt right.” The “Wiggle Warfare” Panzer IV: Continuing the theme, this Panzer IV tank is constructed from – you guessed it – corgis. The corgi arrangement is intricate, cleverly mimicking the angles and features of the German tank. A determined corgi “commander” peeks out from the hatch, looking ready for battle. The model also features tiny, realistic details like miniature machine guns and exhaust pipes. The “Short Legs, Long Range” Battleship: The biggest model in the initial release. This impressive battleship is a truly collaborative effort of many corgis. The “hull” is formed by a long line of strategically positioned corgis, while the turrets are constructed from groups of smaller corgis. A regal corgi “captain” stands on the bridge, overseeing the operation. What Makes These Models Special? It's not just the quirky concept. Apple Oregon LLC has put serious effort into the quality. These aren't mass-produced plastic toys. They’re die-cast metal with incredibly detailed paintwork. Each model is individually assembled and inspected to ensure it meets the company’s high standards. “We’re using the same techniques we use for our classic car models,” says Olsen. “The only difference is… well, they’re corgis. A lot more fluff involved.” The models are also surprisingly durable. The die-cast metal construction means they can withstand a fair amount of handling. (Although Apple Oregon LLC doesn't recommend reenacting actual battles with them.) Who Are These For? Honestly? Anyone with a sense of humor and an appreciation for quality collectibles. While they're definitely appealing to corgi lovers, these models are more than just cute. They're well-crafted, historically-inspired (sort of), and genuinely unique. “We think they’ll appeal to collectors of all ages,” says the spokesperson. “Whether you’re a serious military model enthusiast, a corgi fanatic, or just someone who likes to have fun, we think you’ll appreciate these.” Availability and Pricing The “Corgi Military Models” line is available for pre-order now on the Apple Oregon LLC website (www.appleoregonllc.com – although the site doesn’t currently reflect the new product line). Pricing varies depending on the model: “Operation Fluff Storm” Sherman Tank: $129.99 “Paws of Fury” Spitfire: $99.99 “Wiggle Warfare” Panzer IV: $119.99 “Short Legs, Long Range” Battleship: $199.99 Shipping is expected to begin in late November, just in time for the holiday season. Looking Ahead Apple Oregon LLC isn’t stopping with these initial models. They’re already planning future releases, including a corgi submarine, a corgi fighter jet, and even a corgi aircraft carrier. “We’ve got a lot of ideas,” says Olsen with a smile. “The possibilities are endless when you’re building military models out of corgis.” So, if you're looking for a unique and surprisingly well-made collectible, keep an eye on Apple Oregon LLC. They're proving that sometimes, the most unexpected combinations can be the most delightful. And who knows? Maybe corgis will rule the battlefield… in miniature, at least.
